THE NEW YORK POST: Man Accused of Selling 100 Pound Turtle, Claims He’s The Victim.

After nearly 3 weeks missing. A 100 Pound, 17 Year Old, African Spurred Turtle, was found after being sold to a man in Connecticut. 36 Year Old Shawn Waters, is accused of Selling the Turtle for $300 Dollars and Exchange for another Species of Turtle. It was stolen from an Animal Sanctuary in Queens July 17.

Police, have reported that Waters is the Thief that had stolen the turtle right from the Sanctuary. But Prosecutor’s are only charging him with Possession of Stolen Property. During Court, Waters Claims that he received the turtle through multiple people. When he finally found the turtle, The Trader wanted to Exchange for a snapping turtle. He took a train up to Connecticut where he made the trade.

The Man who had got The turtle, seen it had been missing and took it to police. That’s when Water’s was questioned and Cooperated with officers. His Mother stated that Her Son did nothing wrong, and trades turtles because of his love for them.

Many things went wrong during this trade and buy of that turtle. I am not saying he did it? And I’m not saying he didn’t. But I will say that he knew about the Turtle being stolen. But first I would like to say that “Trading Turtles and other Reptiles is not Illegal. But they do have to be of Age and Size to Sale and Trade. The reason is because many of the Reptiles Harbor Salmonella on their skin, that could cause an outbreak.” Here is some of the things Mr. Waters did not look at when Trading that Turtle. And if he knew that? He knew his Consequences.

  • Proper Paperwork stating that this turtle is Legally owned and In Good Health.
  • Bill of Sale stating that this turtle was Legally Traded/Purchased from the Owner.
  • Wonder why the Owner of the Exotic Turtle traded for an Ordinary Snapping Turtle?
  • Why didn’t anyone find a man hauling a 100LB Turtle odd on the Train?

When you think about it all… When you deal with underground trading? You never know what you might find. And I’ve never been to New York City. But I Hear you never know what you’ll see riding Subways and Trains…. So I guess nothing he did would have ever crossed anyone’s path to think this turtle was stolen.

Even though the Law in the US clearly states that the Sell and Trade of Turtles is Legal after a certain Age and Size. Tennessee Law’s restrict the Sell and Trade of Turtles as Pets and Other things. Wildlife Fish & Game Wardens will not Give Permits to Pet Stores.

Do you think he went the wrong way to obtain the Turtle? I know it isn’t the only one on this Planet, and He could have easily found another trader anywhere. Do you think Cops are trying to Pen the whole theft on this guy? All he did was Receive and Possess Stolen Property. The Actual Thief is still out there.

Thank You for reading. Always watch out when Selling and Purchasing things. It’s really a Buy or Beware World out here.

Be Careful. Be Safe.

  1. You actually make it appear really easy along with your presentation however I find this matter to be actually something which I think I might never understand. It sort of feels too complicated and extremely huge for me. I’m looking forward for your next put up, I’ll attempt to get the cling of it!
